I am one of the authors working full time to establish the sentience of animals in the literature. As a published ethologist, I originally financed my studies by selling paintings and prints of the wildlife I knew. Sharks have been a focus, for as soon as I began watching them, I saw that they are unlike the animals we know best. So I studied their behaviour underwater for sixteen years, identifying each of many hundreds and recording their actions. When they were finned for shark fin soup, I wrote down their story and have been writing instead of painting ever since.
Now with the capability of making videos, I publish what I can capture of wild animal behaviour here. Thank you so much for your interest, for indeed, the world is full of mysteries, of which the most profound is consciousness. And each animal is a focus of that ethereal magic.

The Chiffchaff, a tiny bird seeming to be more energy than substance!
A small insectivorous bird, the chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) is a common and widespread leaf warbler who breeds in open woodlands in northern and temperate Europe. It migrates to southern and western Europe, southern Asia and north Africa in wintertime. And that is where I have filmed these sequences, showing chiffchaffs flitting through the flowers eating nectar and pollinating flowers, something that very few birds do. The tiny chiffchaff is so fast moving and hard to film that it has taken me years to get these beautiful sequences of birds not only sipping nectar from flowers, but hunting for insects through the trees and on the ground. I hope you enjoy it and will leave me a comment!

At a water drip, wasps not only drink! They are on the prowl!

It was fascinating to watch and try to film the wasps that gathered at my water drip last summer. While some tried to drink, there were others that circled looking for a female to pounce on! This video shows three species, one which is considered to be very rare.
Thunderbird: The Spirit of Fire and Lightning Who Came to Warn of Danger: Speed Portrait
Переглядів 27Місяць тому
Speed painting of one of the illustrations for my book about how wildlife fleeing forest fires is treated in Canada. They are all in terrible peril. The narration tells you about our story and how we had to keep fifteen fire refugees out of view of the people in the valley who wanted them all killed. The book is now published on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B0DP48VWYS
A Bear Story and Speed Painting--Bears are fleeing forest fires. . .

Speed painting telling about Romulus, a bear who arrived in our valley after fleeing a huge forest fire that destroyed his territory. Sadly, his search for safety took him to a valley where the residents hate wildlife and just wanted him dead. My husband and I spent all of our time trying to keep him and the other forest fire refugees out of view of the killers. This is another illustration don...
The Magnificent Sanctuary of Mogador

Link to crowd funding page: gogetfunding.com/the-magnificent-sanctuary-of-mogador/ The narration tells us: "Our Sanctuary sprang to life with the need to rescue puppies from the garbage. And there were always those abandoned on the roads-wandering-starving and ignored. Rosetta was living, uncared for, in a cardboard box on the ramparts of the ancient town. Sunny had been abandoned and we found ...
Elmeretta's Story and Bear Speed Portrait.

A remarkable story describing the intelligent behaviour of one of the bears that the Conservation Officers were determined to shoot. It describes how I made her understand that she must not come forward there was a CO, armed with a war weapon who was looking for bears to shoot, just around the corner from the place where she had paused. . . This happened in a valley in British Columbia, Canada,...
Speed Painting and a Story About Bears

Here is another illustration for the book I'm working on about the way bears are treated in British Columbia, Canada. I am becoming a whistle blower!Luckily I no longer live in that benighted country, because there is no freedom of speech there and the last thing the anti-environmental government wants is for people to start liking wildlife. I hope you enjoy watching my speed painting, rendered...
Speed Painting and a Bear Story

Another ink painting of a bear to be an illustration in my next book, The Five Star Bears. It will tell the story of how bears fleeing the forest fires were treated by the residents of a valley in British Columbia, Canada. Likely this is happening across Canada but is being ignored by the media. The vicious bias against bears is no different from the bias against sharks, but instead of reportin...

Blackbirds' Singing: the sweetness of their voices puts honey to shame!
I just heard this for the first time today and I would never have placed it as a raven. Luckily it took flight and I saw it. Very loud clicking/thumping with a low pitched glurp or bloop like someone swallowing loudly. Beautiful animal and experience.
完全に懐いてくれて居るブトちゃん!!!可愛らしい姿を沢山見せてくれて居る状態だね
That is wonderful! They are so smart and very cute, especially when they are young!
Poor boy
Yes, it was very difficult to look after him because he was so aggressive, and I couldn't give him a varied life, though he was free in a large area. I was very lucky (after a year) to find someone who needed a donkey for riding from place to place, not for work, and who worked with a donkey rescue association. So I knew he would be kindly treated and neither beaten nor hobbled. This man took him and told me later that my donkey actually runs from town to town! He meets other donkeys and really has a better life than he had with us. We, including the other two donkeys who were badly oppressed by him at times, were much relieved!
@ oh I love that, he’s free of abuse and has purpose!
Nice reminder of Sunshine Valley. We moved away almost 7 years ago!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Mollyanne. I left too, at the end of 2018. But I used to love riding my bicycle down those logging roads! What a beautiful place it was...
Thank you for your compassion and being there for animals in their great time of need. 🙏💝
Nature is cruel
She's so cute❤
Well this is weird but funny. lol, they snort. It’s more similar to a vocalization a horse might make. They also will call their young with high pitched vocalization.
And think this are Velociraptors...
Franck and Ila, You’re humans full of love and compassion and the world is a much better place with you in it ! Thank you for everything you do ❤️ Fela
Thank you so very much, Fela, for your kind words! Indeed, it is love and the world needs so much more of it...
Thank you for caring for these lovely dogs! What food are you now buying?
Thank you so much 🙏🌹 we have to share this and help them to help more animals ❤❤❤❤
Very kind! Indeed, all shares welcome!
What you do is so wonderful and commendable. I hope more people discover this channel and can help. Thank you so much.
I hold animals precious. People should respect them or not go and buy a house near them. I prefer animals
You are so right. Thank you for commenting.
Thank you for your voice♥️
Thank you for hearing me!
Oh I feel for you and your husband. So much pain. Much love to you both from Australia, where we have the pain of wild horses (brumbies) being killed on orders from the government. xxxx
Thank you so very much, Lauren. I feel for you too--no wild horses should be killed. The brumbies of Australia are famous and should be completely protected. Sending you so much love too--we are all kindred spirits in this.
Wow! Stunning work!
Oh thank you so much for your kind words! I wish you all good things.
Not so cute now hahahaha
Are you sure she wasn't mourning a dead relative? :) I love those things! So cute, even though it's creepy that they remind me of "The Sentinels" on "The Matrix".
By sucking in all those juicy liquified internal organs? Idk mate
Jumping spiders are well known cannibals. They'll eat any spider.
Now I'll go to die peacefully..... 😂
Marvellous to watch the bear come alive! You do make it look effortless, as tho I could pick up a brush and do the same in a few minutes!
Very kind. I'm happy you enjoyed watching!
How often do they mate?
15 to 20 times a day
ehhhh
This was recorded by a carrot
Sure you've got your spelling right?

He whispered sweet nothings in her ear then went for the other end 😂❤

Birds are freaky
This is a bear, actually. To see a bird, check this out: ua-cam.com/video/ba2TQn1hQzc/v-deo.html Why do you think that birds are "freaky?"
why do the males have their mouth open?
Since we cannot ask them and have a response we can understand, we really don't know. But maybe it is just part of their excitement. I tried but was unable to catch the high pitched squeaking sound that they sometimes make at the apparent moment of fulfillment. Why? No person can know. However, I think it is reasonable to think that they experience pleasure and excitement when they mate. Even flies, for example, seem to do so because it was shown experimentally that those male flies who were not able to mate when they wanted to, would consume more alcohol than those who did mate frequently.
I have to admit I was a tad disappointed, at first, but then I just sat and enjoyed this guy doing his thing. ... Still. Raven can, technically, talk, so I was expecting an awesome talking wild raven video. Probably should've put quotation marks around talking.
I'm very happy you enjoyed watching him! I didn't think that anyone would imagine that a wild raven would spontaneously talk any language but his own, though. When you watch people talking in a language you don't know, you understand a lot just by their expressions and gestures. You wouldn't put quotations marks around the word, talking, when applying it to them.
Ila, I miss speaking to my entomologist father-in-law about these subjects, since I find them fascinating, as well. I know that many, if not all insects have tiny brains. Other entomologists please feel free to correct me. This allows insects to instinctively move, feed, reproduce, and pollinate as we see beautifully in your video. I love seeing the volunteer flowers, which many consider weeds. Your video shows how much volunteer flowers help our environment. Thank you for posting. ❤
It's great to hear from you Annette! Yes, insects do have small brains, just about a million neurons, but the big brain hypothesis is no longer really taken seriously given the latest findings re consciousness. This tiny animal shows selectivity in its choices, and even a sense of self! The surroundings and plants are all natural in this part of the world and very pretty at this time of year!
Animals are resilient . When they have an opportunity they take it not matter how difficult or small.Sweet
Yes, well said!
I can’t help but think that if everyone were to listen to this short video, they would be inspired to re-think how they interact with their world. The ideas presented are very thought provoking and, I think, true!
Thank you for commenting! I appreciate your thoughts on this and hope that more people watch it!
I really enjoyed watching you paint this, you make it look so easy. The result is so beautiful it’s hard to believe it was done so quickly.
Wonderful! It is a very interesting technique, I think.
That little guy sounds so happy! Must have been quite a while since he last bathed!
I think so! My house is not far away and I have bird baths out, but I've never seen this small species use them.
Nothing is more special than coming home to your smiling pet, they are always so happy to see you! Love this little film, they are so expressive.
You are so right! Thank you for commenting.
So sweet and beautiful, Ila! ❤
Thank you so much for commenting, Annette! Very kind.

Another beautiful painting, Ila. I have always enjoyed creating a few fast paintings. Love the use of the coin.
Thank you so much for watching, Annette! I find these techniques so much fun to use and great for stress relief!
Its very nice
Very pleased that you like it!
Wonderful to watch Ila, especially with the birds singing, and landing on you, just beautiful!❤ Much love, Annette
Very kind--so pleased you enjoyed it and my beloved birds!
Really lovely!
Thank you! I'm very happy that you enjoyed it!
I am going to download this fabulous video and listen to it when I go to sleep Thank you for sharing this great video👍🥰
I am so very happy that you enjoy it so much! Wishing you all good things, especially magical dreams.
I like your art and I would like to use pouring with a bit more detail like you do.the bird background makes a nice change to some of the weird music you here sometimes
Thank you for commenting, @rogergatrell4383. It is great to merge the beautiful effects you can get from flow painting with realism--it just takes a lot of experimenting I think, to find ways to make it work, because the fluid paint is so hard to control. I appreciate you mentioning the bird background, too! I was most uncertain what to use, and felt that narrating anything would be a distraction, while birds are pleasant to listen to. I have recorded them when it was quiet, so decided to try that! Good luck with your painting!
Da hellllllll
So cool
